An Instagram drug dealer account selling dangerous illegal drugs like Ketamine and cocaine has been operating for nearly a year and Instagram says it does not violate their community guidelines.
We stumbled across this account when it made a spam comment on a post asking people to visit their web site, which sells heroin, cocaine, ketamine and more. We figured it was just a new account and would be shut down. But when we visited the commenter’s page on Instagram, we were surprised to see 38 posts from as far back as May 31, 2020…all of them showing bottles of ketamine, bags or trays of white powder with handwritten notes stating it to be cocaine. Another handwritten note in a post lists a number to contact the seller via WhatsApp.
We did what any normal person would do and reported the posts individually and the account as a whole to Instagram. Surely that would solve the problem and get this person removed. But no! Instagram actually responded and said the account was not violating the community guidelines! Their reply stated that the account was reviewed and that they “aren’t able to remove it at this time.” They went on to state, “this is because we only remove content that goes against our Community Guidelines.”
We checked, just to make sure we weren’t crazy. Instagram’s policy says the following:
Follow the law.
Instagram is not a place to support or praise terrorism, organized crime, or hate groups. Offering sexual services, buying or selling firearms, alcohol, and tobacco products between private individuals, and buying or selling illegal or prescription drugs (even if legal in your region) are also not allowed. Instagram also prohibits the sale of live animals between private individuals, though brick-and-mortar stores may offer these sales. No one may coordinate poaching or selling of endangered species or their parts.
We reported it again, this time with no response. As of today, the account is still up and has 983 followers. We’re hoping that several of those are law enforcement.
